Dear Readers,
Welcome to the 118th issue of TESL-EJ!
In addition to another stimulating Perspectives offering from Scott Alkire, we have eleven feature articles this time around. There would have been more, but the Internet breakdown in Iran has delayed the completion of a number of promising articles. These will hopefully be included in the November 2026 issue.
Call for new reviewers. Recently, we have had a number of submissions that have been delayed for lack of reviewers with suitable strengths in fields related to the submission. Reviewers have four weeks to review assigned papers, with an extension possible if needed. One perpetual need is for scholars who are able to judge whether appropriate statistical procedures have been applied to the manuscript at hand. Here is a list of the most common disciplinary areas mentioned in titles received since January 2026. If you are interested in becoming a reviewer, please see the “About” page for complete information.
- Artificial Intelligence & Digital Technologies
- Language Teaching Methodology
- Teacher Education & Professional Development
- Assessment & Testing
- Writing
- Speaking & Pronunciation
- Reading & Literacy
- Listening
- Vocabulary, Grammar & Lexis
- Motivation, Psychology & Learner Development
- English-Medium Instruction (EMI), CLIL & Global Englishes
- Intercultural Communication & Language Policy
- ESP, EAP & Professional Communication
- Young Learners & School Education
New policies on AI for authors and peer reviewers.
- Authors will be requested to declare any application of AI beyond its use for spelling, grammar or improvement of language style.
- Peer reviewers will be warned not to submit all or part of manuscripts under review to any LLM or other AI tool since this is a breach of peer review confidentiality agreements.
Passages. We would like to welcome three new co-editors to the TESL-EJ team. Huynh Manh Bùi, of the University of Economics and Finance, Vietnam, Taner Hosseini of Istanbul Kültür University, Türkiye and Pablo Agustín Artero Abellán of Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. It is essential for a quick turnaround of new submissions that they be assigned to a co-editor as soon as possible so that the review process can begin. We also regret that Made Hery Santosa has had to withdraw from his co-editorship due to pressing issues at his own university. We are also losing our Media Editor, Jim Kochem who has served for over seven years. We now welcome Jihee Im, a newly minted Ph.D. from Washington State University, who, as a student, wrote a number of media reviews for TESL-EJ.
Thanks to recent reviewers. We thank the reviewers of all submissions that had reached a decision since our last issue – regardless of whether the paper was accepted or declined. As the current WordPress software is getting ‘long in the tooth’, we are now considering ways to better integrate the HTML version with the Open Journal System (OJS) version for future issues. One benefit will be greater flexibility when accessing TESL-EJ on smaller devices.
Enjoy!
Thomas N. Robb, for the TESL-EJ Team
